Pastor's Letter - June 2017

Dear Friends,
Happy Summer! This is the time of year temperatures rise, pools heat up and kids are out of school. There is also something else that happens this time every year … Vacation Bible School! This is going to be a great year for VBS.
If you have never participated in Vacation Bible School I recommend you experience it at least once. Many people come back year after year. For our children they will be following The Jesus Way. Invite your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. Our kids' curriculum is from Lutheran Outdoor Ministries and has daily lessons based on the way Jesus lived his life: feeding, forgiving, loving the neighbor, serving humbly, and praying. It will be a fantastic experience as they grow in the faith.
For our adult class I will be reteaching the basics of the faith. Earlier this year Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, the presiding Bishop of the ELCA, urged churches to reteach the Small Catechism in preparation for this year being the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. Do you know much about basic Christian theology? You are invited and invited to invite others. We will go through the Small Catechism which talks about the 10 Commandments, The Lord’s Prayer, Apostles’ Creed, Baptism and Communion. All the basics of our faith. I have had a surprising number of people over the years ask if we ever have Confirmation for adults. This will be that opportunity.
Vacation Bible School is only a week long but can make a lifetime of difference. Who knows how many people will learn of God’s love for them for the first time? Who might really have their faith come alive? Will it be you?

God’s Peace,

Pastor Ted
